LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- More than $85,000 was raised Monday during a Veterans Day telethon benefiting a Gold Star Families Memorial Monument organizers hope to build on the lawn of the Arkansas State Capitol.

For the last couple years, fundraising efforts have been underway to bring a moment in Little Rock.

Ahead of the telethon, roughly $125,000 was still needed to complete the project. That figure is now around $40,000.

If you didn't get a chance to donate to this worthy cause, you can do so right now at

A Gold Star Families Memorial Monument (GSFMM) would honor the families of servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives while serving in the military.

A Gold Star Family member can be any relative who sacrificed a loved one for our freedom.

The goal is to have the monument in place by June of 2019.

According to organizers, it would be the first of its kind on the lawn of a state capitol in the United States.

Monday's telethon was driven by Red River Dodge -- who also made a $6,000 donation for the monument.
